Hold on, kids: it's starting to rain, and we gotta run for home!
This was taken on the south side of 72nd Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue. It wasn't actually raining at this point, but it certainly did look like it was about to start pouring...
As the woman ran by me, she gave me a quizzical look, and said, "I hope you weren't photographing me! I was running!" And I thought, "well, yeah, that's exactly what made the scene so interesting..."

*********************************
This is the continuation of a photo-project that I began in the summer of 2008: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
As I indicated when I started this project in 2008, I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.
I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.
Thus far, I've generally avoided photographing bums, drunks, crazies, and homeless people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...
The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.
Waking up
Ella waking up in the morning in her bassinet (which she's pretty much outgrown). I have another verison of this photo but at night with some red lights, etc.
This photo was taken with a Canon 5D full frame digital camera with a 15mm f/2.8 fisheye lens sat right inside the top rim of the bassinet, which gives a very 'unique' perspective.
NOTE: This photo made it into Flickr's 'Explore" as one of the top five hundred most interesting photos on a particular day, which makes me somewhat sad as the actual resulting photos didn't make it, ha! You can see all of my photo's that have made it into the Flickr Explore pages here.

New Born grey seal pup
This pup was born this morning, rather quickly, I didnt get the images i set out to get but after talking to Lincs wildlife trust, I decided not to venture out across the sand 100s of people did
I look after injured wildlife, and most injuries are what us humans inflict on them
I love photographing wildlife, but I respect it, It is just that, wildlife, I have no God given right to stomp across the sand and infringe on the animals territory
A true photography would dress in dark clothing, and just take the equipment they needed, a true photography would lay down away from the animal and not approach it in a noisy fashion
Grey seals are very inquisitive lay down away from them and wait and they will then come to you,
learn about your subject, respect it, do not disturb it or force your presents upon it do not make sudden movements and most of all DO NOT TOUCH THEM
I have come home very disturbed and upset by the actions of some photographers whom have visited this place
It ruined my day and kind of turned me off of taking pictures

A special picture for my new step-great-nephew (have fun working that one out!), who was born last year. Yes, on the 3rd of November. However did you guess?
(yup, it's a tiger because it made me think of calvin & hobbes...)

Not such a great shot - focus a bit out - but it was a lucky moment, huh? As soon as I put the camera to my eye this little fella just galloped up to his Mom and reared up like this - I hardly had time to snap it!
...And I immediately thought of Lizzie, who I know likes horses.
And for anyone who looks at my photos regularly and is getting a bit fed up of baby animals, I can only apologise for what's on its way. Go visit Tim's picture of impaled moles for some more accurate farming photography!

1936 Steyr Typ 50 'Baby' (02)
The Steyr 50 is a small car released in 1936 by the Austrian automobile manufacturer Steyr. The streamlined body was approved by Director Karl Jenschke to be constructed in 1935, but in that same year Jenschke relocated to the German Adlerwerke in Frankfurt/Main.
The car had a water-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine driving the rear wheels through a four-speed transmission. To save room and weight a dynastarter was used, which doubled as the axle of the radiator fan. It was regarded as the "Austrian Peoples' Car" and was affectionately referred to as the Steyr "Baby". Professor Porsche had, despite rumors, not been involved in the design or production of the 50. Moreover, the little Steyr offered better seating and luggage space than Porsche's Volkswagen with shorter overall length, a large sheet metal sliding roof and was available with hydraulic brakes (instead of the early Volkswagens' cable-operated ones).

This is Baby. I've had her since she was born. I think this portrait really captures her spirit. She is independent, fierce, bossy, and very loving when she wants to be. 100 Photos Project. onehundredphotos.blogspot.com/
