Just Hatched! Baby Dove

I don't post pet photos often, but this one is different. This photo actually dates back one month. I wanted to make sure this little fella grew up before I posted any pictures.

My wife and I have a bunch of pets, and among them are a male and female ringneck dove. The female laid two eggs. The first one hatched and we actually went a few days before noticing with the way the mother was sitting on the hatchling. My wife was in the room when the second one hatched, shown here. This photo was taken within a few hours of the baby hatching.

So we now have two dove youngsters. We don't know the genders of either yet. Their names are Peaches and Cream. This one is named Cream, because we later realized this one is an ALBINO! this will become more evident in future photos. I find it amazing that even though it will have all white feathers, the baby fuzz is still yellow. One sign this is an albino, the baby's skin is reddish and the older sibling is a darker color.

I'm rearranging things a bit in the doll room to accommodate more MLP display space, I am not done yet I still have framed posters to hang up, a train set to set back up and a bunch of other stuff to do but I wanted to show some of the pictures of the progress so far.

Photography in the doll room is a bitch so please excuse these cobbled together pictures.

Ads said there were monkeys near our hotel. But we thought we'd never see some. Until one evening, 4 days after our arrival, I saw a Dutch family yelling 'monkey over there!'. So there they were, jumping from tree to tree. You could even see a little monkey :)

Much more spectacular was another evening, when we returned to our room in the late afternoon. Suddenly I heard a strange noise. There he was, a monkey sitting 2 meters in front of my door! I quickly grabbed my camera to take a couple shots :) He didn't even mind me taking those pictures! Except the big boss, he showed up a couple minutes later in a protective kinda way. I stayed away a few meters, you'll never know how angry they can become.

Another couple minutes later, we saw them running on the opposite roofs of our building (H-shaped building) jumping into the trees next to our building. Amazing.

mom and me 1985

Do you remember when I was a baby
Did I cry, did I cry
I only remember the days I was laughing
When you sang me sweet lullabies
When you sang me sweet bye and bye

Sometimes I wonder if you were an angel
Would you fly, would you fly
Or would you just hover right here by my side
Keeping me warm and dry
Keeping me safe by your side

Mother mother won't fall from grace
Light a room with the lines on your face
And if you were a river run dry
Well I'd sing you sweet bye and bye

All of the birds that land on my window
Sing your name, sing your name
When all of the time I am crying again
About how much the sky likes to rain
When I should be singing your name

And all of the flowers by the side of the road
They whisper your name while they grow
And if you were a river run dry
Well I'd sing you sweet bye and bye

Life in Haiti

The village we visited consisted of 5,000 people, of which 1,700 were orphans. The countryside of Haiti looks mostly like this picture, and I can assure you that seeing children dying on the side of the road is much different than watching "Save the Children" commercials from the comfort of your air conditioned living room. People have been reduced to eating mud cakes - literally, dried mud - just to keep their bellies full, despite the lack of nutrition and the potential for disease and parasites.

I apologize if this comes across preachy, but experiencing something like this firsthand really shakes you out of your comfort zone.
