Every year we have a pair of wrens who nest in a hanging potted plant on our porch. The plant is long dead, but remains purely as a nest for these birds. It's fun to listen to them scolding my cats. (when the babies are close to being ready to learn to fly, the cats become indoor-only and lose all porch privileges. The pot hangs too high for the cats to ever reach)

This year, for the first time, I got to watch the babies on the one day that they learned to fly. It was adorable. My porch is a very poor photo location, as it's enclosed on the sides, so everything is backlit. Still, here's a crummy picture of an ugly baby wren as it's learning to fly.

The birds are Carolina Wrens.
