wow -- I just found this baby picture of me, so I scanned it. I have no idea what year this was taken or how old I was.

I was in the grocery store shopping the other day, when I saw a flyer advertising a baby photo contest the store was having. I quickly put the flyer in my purse, and began looking for babies to photograph (yes, I had my camera) as I made my way down the aisles. I came across 3 little cuties, and will be sharing their pictures in time. However, when I got home, and looked at the flyer, I discovered that in order to enter the contest, I needed the name, birth date, and address of the babies. I have no idea who these babies are! To top it all off, the first place prize is a year's supply of diapers!!! What on earth would I do with all those diapers?? Oh well, I got some cute shots of some very cute babies. I hope you enjoy them.

taken at the house with the camera on the tripod on a 10 sec timer. this photo was the only one that came out good after around 30 shots coz giro is not looking at the camera... this is quite an experience... it's really hard to shoot babies... it's a test of patience.

i also would like to thank sir richard of dpsc for his last workshop... the idea of the flash was inspired by his setup.

Flash: 1/4 (off camera and located at the back of the subject)
Shutter: 1/200
Aperture: 4.5
ISO: 200
Treatment: Skin tone, little of contrast and saturation.

Harrison's First Picture

This is the picture that started it all, the very first, and thank goodness it was in focus.
Jessica had to have a c-section and I was invited to the OR to be supportive. I had to put on a haz-mat suit, at least I called it that, the nurse later told me that they call it a bunny suit. It was a paper jumpsuit with a plastic zipper, a surgery hat that looked like a doo-rag, and slippers...and when I say slippers, I mean, you had to watch how you walked or you'd slipper down the hall.

I waited in the hallway for what seemed like an eternity while 100 people dressed in scrubs walked past saying, don't worry it'll be okay, she'll be fine, and they're almost ready for you. two guys walked past, one asked, "Is this your first?" The second says, come on man, look at his face, you know its his first!"

They came to get me for a really slick, nervous walk down the hall and put me in this room that was covered with nurses and doctors, course they all could have been janitors dressed in scrubs for all I know, I was there in body, but in mind, I coudl have been on the moon.

They say me down for about 20 seconds while someone kept asking Jessica, do you feel that, do you feel that, as she answered in, ooooooh, owwww, and yessss! Before I knew it I was being escorted down the hallway because they were having to put her under, and a few seconds later I ran into 2 hospital staff that knew us from church; it was really good seeing a familiar face, even though she was sure I had no idea who she was. One of them got to go by the OR and come back down the hall to tell me that they had him out, he was crying, and everything was good.

A few minutes later, they wheeled him down the hall and opened the incubator (or whatever they call those things), where I was told to take as many pictures as I wanted. It was kinda a weird scary detached feeling that I felt...maybe I'm embarassed to admit that my first thought was, "huh, he's cuter than I thought he'd be."

Then there was a long walk back to the labor and delivory wing, or as my father in law called, the "department of labor." My mom greeted us first down the hall where I snapped a few more pictures and fought back another wave or really weird feelings of sickness and being outside of reality. They took him away and put him in the nursery window for quite some time. The rest of the time was spent waiting to make sure that jessica was okay and feeling bad that she missed all of this since she had to be put to sleep for the c-section.

In the end it all turned out all right. Jessica was okay, we had a cute healthy kid, our families were around, and best of all, he was calm and quiet. We've got to figure out which side of the family that came from, but until then, we'll just be thankful for it.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy.

A Lot to Grow Into

I found the perfect collar for my baby girl when she gets older. The collar itself is, probably, over 5 years old. It's been around a lot of my dogs' necks and I feel like it will be perfect for Paisley when she gets older. I had a cute idea for a picture, but it didn't turn out like I wanted it to. Instead I got this picture.

I actually really like it. It reminds me of one of those warrior women from way back when. Especially with the way she's standing and the collar is across her chest. Thanks to her trying to chew it and stepping into a collar every other shot. lol, She's so adorable.
