My sister and I were on a mission to get my dad a longhair Dachshund for Christmas. He had been bringing it up--very strange for him to do because the way he was going about it was totally weird--and I knew without a doubt that he really DID want one.
Well, after a minor setback when he thought we were getting him one (haha!) and him freaking out about it (but even then his excuse was "don't waste your money on it") we were like, whatever. We're DOING IT.
So I got up this morning, got a call from the breeder that we could meet up. Rachel and I left the house after I did the dishes, vacuumed and tidied up, and of course my mom was suspicious when they got home from church :)
We bought two toys, a collar and leash in festive red, and we went home to surprise him.
My sister was the one to talk, I held him the whole time.
"Hey dad, you know those puppies in the paper that Rebekah said were gone? Well, they weren't."
"Okay. Yeah?"
I turned around with the puppy and showed it to him--fully expecting a meltdown. Three years ago on this date I brought Judah home and he pretty much threw a huge fit--he was totally pissed off.
And now three years later a smile broke out on his face, not a trace of feigned anger, nothing. He held out his arms instantly to hold him and cuddled him close like in this picture, and we heard him say something under his breath while he smiled all the way to his eyes. (If you only knew my dad you'd know why this is such a huge deal.)
Rachel asked, "Did you just say thank you?"
"Yes...thank you," he repeated.
I leaned down and kissed his cheek.

My dad has his Dachshund!!!!!

I'm going through Puppy withdrawal?? I was looking at puppy pictures of Socks and it made me sad :(

One thing I miss above all is being able to hold him, haha, little fuzz ball ! <3
