Tried an experiment with film grain filter in Photoshop.
Newborn Wandering Garter Snake (2002)

It was messy in there just after their birth in July 2002, but this newborn Wandering Garter Snake exhibits something I was able to observe (and that at least one book about garter snakes got wrong) -- that garter snakes frequently shed immediately after birth, rather than a week or two later.
This snake was literally hours old when I took this picture.

First picture of Thomas - all 1 pound, 10 ounces of him. You can still see the ink on his foot from when they recorded his footprint on a card. I stopped the doctors from showing my wife this picture as i thought he looked much better in person.
